The exhibition confronts the works of two significant artists from the turn of the nineteenth and the twentieth century. It explores themes of the masquerade, the theatre, the circus, dreams, eroticism and death. Known for their penchant for fantasy, irony and the grotesque, the two painters were deeply rooted in their respective cultures and art circles: the modernist milieus of the Young Belgium and the Young Poland. Ensor evoked the traditions of Dutch art, with its bawdy humour, defiance and didacticism, of folk theater troupes and of the animated street carnivals of Flanders. Wojtkiewicz, submerged in a world of fairytales and dreamlike visions, drew from phenomena such as the cabaret, the comedy theatre Zielony Balonik and Kraków’s folk nativity scenes (szopka).


We offer a playful juxtaposition of these two individuals, who are usually treated as peculiar, isolated cases. The idea of the carnival represents life-as-spectacle, the world turned upside-down, madness, anarchy, chaos, a freedom from norms and conventions. The exhibition is organized by key themes that correspond to major areas in Ensor’s and Wojtkiewicz’s imaginaria, and visualize universal problems in turn-of-the-century art, literature and theatre: "Bohemianism"; "Masqueraders of the Abyss—the Carnival, the Theatre, the Circus"; "Fairytales and Childhood Fantasies"; "Thanatos".

Oprowadzania po galeriach stałych.

Zwiedzanie wystawy z jej kuratorkami: Joanną Kilian-Michieletti, Agnieszką Lajus, Kamillą Pijanowską-Badysiak.

Zwiedzanie wystawy „Czarny karnawał. Ensor / Wojtkiewicz” z przewodniczką / przewodnikiem z Działu Edukacji MNW.

Oprowadzanie w galeriach stałych i na wystawach czasowych w Gmachu Głównym oraz Królikarni. Spotkania odbywają się w prostym języku polskim bez tłumaczenia.

W każdą niedzielę zapraszamy na wspólne odkrywanie Muzeum. Niedziela to czas dla rodziny, a Muzeum to świetne miejsce, w którym można ciekawie spędzić czas z najbliższymi: podziwiać dzieła sztuki, zadawać trudne pytania i szukać na nie odpowiedzi, a nawet trochę się pobawić. Warsztaty odbywają się w dwóch grupach o 10.15 i 12.15.

„Portfolio” Evy Rubinstein – fotograficzne postrzeganie świata / Katarzyna Mączewska

Muzeum Narodowe w Warszawie, konsekwentnie konstruując prace nad rozbudową kolekcji, zakupiło 22 autorskie fotografie Evy Rubinstein, światowej sławy artystki fotografki, mieszkającej w Nowym Jorku, należącej m.in. do American Society of Media Photographers i Polish Institute of Arts and Sience of America. Podczas warsztatów dla nauczycielek i nauczycieli będziemy mieli okazję zapoznać się z „Portfolio” artystki. Jest ono przeglądem motywów, przemyśleń i obserwacji Rubinstein w okresie dziesięciolecia jej pracy z fotografią. To osobisty zapis artystki, który wprowadza w jej sposób postrzegania świata. Warsztat przyjmie formę studyjnego odwiedzenia zbiorów Fotografii i Ikonografii Muzeum Narodowego w Warszawie oraz warsztatu w aktualnej odsłonie Gabinetu Fotografii.

Czy sztukę doświadczamy tylko patrząc? Podczas warsztatów przekonany się, że dzieła w Muzeum angażują wszystkie zmysły, nie tylko wzrok. Zapraszamy do wspólnego oglądania, słuchania, dotykania, wąchania, a nawet smakowania!
